About This Tool

What is the SRM Attendance Margin Tracker?

Stop guessing. Know exactly where you stand — before it is too late.

At SRM University, every student must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in each subject to be eligible for the end-semester examination. Falling even one class short of this threshold can result in being detained — meaning you cannot write the exam for that subject regardless of how well you prepared.

The SRM Attendance Margin Tracker takes the guesswork out of this calculation. Instead of manually computing percentages and trying to figure out how many classes you can safely miss, this tool does all the math for you in seconds. Simply enter the number of classes you have attended, the total classes held, and — optionally — how many classes are still left in the semester. The tool instantly tells you your current attendance percentage, whether you are safe or in danger, how many more classes you can afford to skip, or how many you must attend consecutively to recover.

This tool is useful not just for checking your current status, but also for planning ahead. If 20 more classes are scheduled before the exam, you can see in real time how your attendance will change if you attend all of them — or what happens if you miss a few.

Three Attendance Situations — Where Do You Stand?

Every SRM student falls into one of three categories when it comes to attendance. Understanding yours is the first step to taking the right action.

🟢
Safe Zone — Above 85%
You have a healthy buffer. You can afford to miss a few classes without risking your eligibility. However, avoid letting your percentage drift below 80% — emergencies happen, and you want room to absorb them without panic.
🟡
Warning Zone — 75% to 84%
You are eligible, but barely. One or two more absences could push you below the threshold. You should attend every class from this point forward and avoid taking any unnecessary risks with your eligibility.
🔴
Danger Zone — Below 75%
You are currently ineligible to write the end-semester exam. Recovery is possible if enough classes remain in the semester, but you must attend every single one going forward. Use this tracker to find your exact recovery target.
Step-by-Step Guide

How to Use This Tracker

Follow these simple steps to know your exact attendance position and plan your next move.

1
Enter Classes Attended
Type in the total number of classes you have actually been present for across the semester so far. You can find this on your SRMIST student portal under the attendance section.
2
Enter Total Classes Held
Enter the total number of classes that have been conducted by your faculty up to today — including ones you missed. This is the denominator used to calculate your attendance percentage.
3
Add Remaining Classes (Optional)
If you know how many more classes are scheduled before the end-semester exam, enter that number. This lets the tracker show you future projections — how many of the remaining classes you must attend to recover or stay safe.
4
Click Check My Attendance Status
Hit the button and get your full picture instantly — current percentage, status badge, number of classes you can still miss (or must attend), and a personalized action plan based on your situation.
5
Read Your Personalized Advice
The result card includes a personal advice section written specifically for your situation — not generic tips, but numbers and actions tailored to exactly where you stand right now.
6
Track Subject by Subject
Reset and run the calculator again for each of your subjects. Attendance is calculated independently per course at SRM, so a shortage in one subject can affect your exam eligibility even if others are fine.
The Math Behind It

How Attendance Margin is Calculated

The formulas used in this tracker are based on the official SRM University 75% attendance rule.

Current Attendance % = (Classes Attended ÷ Total Classes Held) × 100
Minimum Classes Required = ⌈75% × Total Classes Held⌉ (rounded up)
Classes You Can Still Miss = Floor[(Attended − 0.75 × Total) ÷ 0.75]
Classes Needed to Recover = ⌈(0.75 × Total − Attended) ÷ 0.25⌉
Final Attendance After Remaining Classes = (Attended + X) ÷ (Total + Remaining) × 100

Example: You attended 58 out of 80 classes (72.5% — below 75%). With 20 classes remaining, you need to attend at least 17 of them consecutively to cross the 75% mark. If you attend all 20, your final percentage becomes 78/100 = 78% — safely above the threshold. This tracker handles all of these calculations automatically so you always know exactly what to do next.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything SRM students commonly ask about attendance rules and this tracker.

SRM University requires a minimum of 75% attendance in every subject to be eligible to appear in the end-semester examination. Falling below this threshold may result in detention, and you will not be permitted to sit for the exam.
Attendance percentage = (Classes Attended ÷ Total Classes Held) × 100. For example, if 80 classes were held and you attended 65, your attendance is 81.25%. This calculator does all this math for you automatically.
This depends on your current attendance and total classes remaining in the semester. The Attendance Margin Tracker calculates exactly how many more classes you can afford to miss while staying above 75% — and how many you must attend if you are already below the threshold.
If your attendance is below 75%, you are classified as "detained" and will not be allowed to write the end-semester exam for that subject. You may have to repeat the semester or apply for a medical/special condonation through the department.
Yes. SRM awards attendance marks as part of the 40-mark internal assessment. 90%+ attendance earns 5 marks, 85–89% earns 4 marks, 80–84% earns 3 marks, and 75–79% earns 2 marks. Attendance below 75% earns 0 marks.
Yes. The 75% minimum attendance rule applies uniformly across all SRM University campuses including Kattankulathur (KTR), Ramapuram, Vadapalani, and Delhi-NCR under both the 2018 and 2021 academic regulations.
You can use this tool once per subject. Simply enter the attended and total classes for each subject separately to get the margin or deficit specific to that course. Track all subjects individually for best results.
