CGPA to Percentage Conversion at SRM University

Understanding how your CGPA translates to a percentage is essential for job applications, higher studies, and government forms.

SRM University follows a 10-point grading system where your academic performance is represented as a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). However, many job applications, competitive exams, government recruitment forms, and university admissions for postgraduate programmes ask for your marks in percentage format. This creates a very common need — converting your CGPA to an equivalent percentage accurately.

SRM University has an officially recommended conversion formula for this purpose: Percentage = (CGPA × 10) − 7.5. This formula is used by the university itself in transcripts, bonafide certificates, and placement-related documentation. The reverse conversion — from percentage to CGPA — uses the inverse formula: CGPA = (Percentage + 7.5) ÷ 10.

This tool supports both directions. Whether you have your CGPA and need the percentage equivalent, or you know your percentage from a marksheet and want to find the corresponding CGPA, you can get the result instantly — along with your degree class, grade band, and placement eligibility overview.

Official Formula

The Conversion Formula Explained

SRM University uses a linear conversion formula that is simple, consistent, and officially recognised:

CGPA → Percentage:  Percentage = (CGPA × 10) − 7.5
Percentage → CGPA:  CGPA = (Percentage + 7.5) ÷ 10
Example 1:  CGPA = 8.5 → Percentage = (8.5 × 10) − 7.5 = 77.5%
Example 2:  CGPA = 9.2 → Percentage = (9.2 × 10) − 7.5 = 84.5%
Example 3:  Percentage = 80% → CGPA = (80 + 7.5) ÷ 10 = 8.75

This formula is linear, which means every 0.1 increase in CGPA corresponds to exactly 1% increase in the equivalent percentage. The constant offset of 7.5 reflects the grading structure where a student scoring at the minimum of each grade band receives an average grade point for that band.
